SUSPENSION
General opinion is that the Montreal’s handling doesn’t
quite live up to its image, we dispute this. When new the
standard suspension even though not fully independent was
more than adequate and this was the findings of Autocar
original test - (Autocar 1972). We suspect that new owners
are experiencing a worn out set up that has not seen any
proper maintenance for many years.
Although the Montreal suspension is similar to other 105 series cars it is not the
same. Unlike other 105 series cars the Montreal has the same
depth spring pans left and right and on most cars pre 1974
(chassis 1428312) the left and right springs were different
lengths.
105revive recomend
only a few upgrades for a road car: Larger diameter front
sway bar with later Spider drop links. Polyurethane bushes
on the front Sway bar mountings, Caster arm and rear T-arm
thrust washers and centre support. For shock absorbers we
use Bilstein or Koni.
Unless you plan to race
or trackday your Montreal there are few benefits from
lowering a road car. From our experience a lowered car is a
problem during everyday driving especially when negotiating
ever increasing obstacles on roads for slowing vehicles
down. Also for those who take their car overseas getting on
and off ferries with a lowered car can also be difficult.
SUSPENSION - REFRESH
105revive can carry out a complete refresh of your Montreal
suspension system to suit your requirements. We can either
refurbish your existing suspension components which includes
blasting, repainting and new bushes with the option of
standard bushes or if you want to upgrade, polyurethane
bushes for certain components. |
